THIRD MURDER RAP FOR DETROIT MALE HOOKER

twice convicted gay murderer faces third gay murder rap. \nDETROIT - It's the third murder rap for a Detroit male hooker who is now accused of strangling a gay man - he was charged Friday with the crime and has been convicted of two previous murders of gay men.

Willie Brown is serving his second prison term for strangling a gay man and, on Friday, was charged with killing Eddie Matthews, whom he solicited for sex and then allegedly killed last February, Wayne County assistant prosecutor Robert Spada tells APBNews.com.

Spada says Brown's DNA matches evidence found on Matthews, a 37-year-old nursing home worker.

The 43-year-old Brown is serving life in Jackson state prison for killing a 65-year-old Oakland County social worker, Harold McCormick, last May, APBNews says. Brown was convicted of that crime in November. He had been paroled in 1994 after serving 15 years for strangling Kelvin Edwards on May 7, 1999 - twenty years to the day, APBNews says, before he killed McCormick.

Sean Kosofsky, director of policy and victims services for Triangle Foundation, a gay, lesbian, and bisexual advocacy group, tells APBNews "sarcastically" that he's not sure "if (Brown)'s just smart or lucky or that's how it ended up." The Triangle Foundation helped investigators find the suspect in Matthews' death, the crime news wire says.

Spada tells APBNews Triangle gave investigators tips on where to find certain people or who had heard what regarding links to the crime. Kosofsky says his group encourages gay men to speak up and cooperate with investigators, as well as helping police and prosecutors by talking to bar owners and sex workers, APBNews says.
