THE NEW KIDS ON THE EROTIC HEALTH BLOCK

There are some new kids on the block in the realm of adult entertainers' health - the Keeping Erotic Entertainers Protected (KEEP) program has been launched by the Family Medical Center at Coldwater. And the punch line - it's a free service.

"We'd done some testing for the entertainers already," says office manager Cesar Cazares, "but we wanted to have a program focused just on the entertainers. They're not (always) getting tested with the frequency they should be."

He says the program has almost no feedback so far because it's just now launching, but they're hoping to hear within a week whether they'll have a positive response within the adult entertainment industry. And the free service comes thanks to the Family Medical Center being funded entirely by the government, he says.

Cazares says the program people were aware of Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation (AIM), the group founded by adult film legend Sharon Mitchell, but he says KEEP shouldn't be considered their competition.

"We're just focusing on keeping erotic entertainers healthy," he says. "And, well protected. So we don't feel we're any competition or a threat."
