Syren Latex Couture Featured on ABC’s 'Ugly Betty'

Syren Latex Couture will be featured on tomorrow's episode of the ABC television show "Ugly Betty." "Jeff of L.A.," Syren's head of latex design, was first discovered by "Ugly Betty" last year when he was asked to create catsuits for the Christmas photo shoot in Episode 4. In designing the couture dress for the character of Amanda, played by Becky Newton, Jeff worked closely with "Ugly Betty" costume designer, Eduardo Castro.

"They wanted the dress to be extremely form-fitting," Jeff of L.A. explains, "so tight that Amanda can barely walk. Doing something that custom can be tricky, but Becky [Newton] has a wonderful look and her figure is just right for latex."

The "Amanda Dress" – named after the character it's designed for on ABC's show – will not be mass produced, but will be available as a couture piece that can be viewed at Syren.com.

Syren is no stranger to mainstream exposure and has designed costumes featured in big budget Hollywood films as well as music videos. The latex couture company designed Michelle Pfiefer's Catwoman costume in Batman Returns, Uma Thurman's Poison Ivy costume in Batman & Robin and for Gwen Stefani in her Wind It Up video.

"What sets Syren apart from other rubber design companies is that we've been modifying our line based on current style trends rather than fetish trends," Jeff of L.A. continues. "A lot of latex design got stuck in the 80s. We've brought the look up-to-date."
