Sweet Obscenity Defense Wrapping Third Week

Week three of the defense's case in the obscenity trial of Steve Sweet and Sweet Entertainment is expected to wrap March 12, with closing arguments in the case possibly coming as soon as March 19, following one more week of defense testimony and exhibits, according to Sweet's attorney, Paul Kent-Snowsell.

"Both our experts have given their evidence now," Snowsell told AVN.com. "And we still have the evidence of the local community to go in, and that'll be going into next week. Then, we'll be doing more comparative analysis between the materials of the prosecutor and that available over the Internet."

Snowsell also said the defense still plans to show portions of mainstream films that feature what he called much "the same kind of sex and violence" as in the video and film segments which got Sweet on trial in the first place.

Sweet's trial began in mid-February. He was arrested in December and charged with making and distributing online 11 adult fetish vignettes which prosecutors have called obscene under Canadian law that prohibits combining explicit sex with violence and cruelty.

Snowsell said a ruling in the case may not come until two to three months after the presentation of all evidence is completed.
