CHATSWORTH, Calif. - Vivid Girls Sunrise Adams and Lanny Barby illustrate one of life's most basic rules in Pay or Play, the directorial debut of Belladonna's brother Sinclair.
In stores today, Pay or Play is "a chill, hardcore, jerk-off-to-me movie," Sinclair told AVN. "It's about hardcore sex. The stories are pretty unrelated, but they all carry the same theme — in a couple of scenes, it has to do with paying somebody, but in a couple of scenes, it's just about somebody being a whore. Because I like the whole idea of a whore ... of somebody getting paid to have sex with no connection.
"In the Ashley Blue scene, it's about a girl who can't pay her rent," Sinclair continued, "because she spent all her money on sex toys. I got that from watching Kingpin. I thought it would be hilarious to watch Ashley Blue play this bitch of a landlord, and see her completely defile Sunrise Adams."
Lanny Barby, meanwhile, plays a Russian interrogator trying to extract information from the jailed John Strong, and as Sinclair tells it, she and Sunrise both "kind of disprove the belief that contract girls don't like sex. If you look at the John Strong and Lanny Barby scene, you'll really get a true picture of Lanny Barby being the amazing performer that she is. For Sunrise, I really like the girl/girl scene, just because her and Ashley kind of reversed it on me, in the sense that Sunrise became more the dominant than the submissive."
Also in the cast are Kimberly Kane, Sindee Jennings, Nick Manning, Mark Davis, Kurt Lockwood and Mike Striker.
"Sunrise has always had incredible numbers, and after a 4 1/2-year layoff, her sales for Off the Hook and Sex Addict have been amazing," said Vivid's national sales manager David Peskin. "She has to be a superstar in this biz when you look at what her numbers are."
On seeing his first title as a director hit the street, Sinclair said, "It's a nerve-wracking experience. But it's also kind of exciting, because I get to show you what turns me on. And I also get to show you great sex. I'm excited because I know all the sex scenes are good. Just take a look at it — if you like it, cool, if you don't, just please don't tell me. I'm sensitive."
