Stars Appear (In 3D) To Promote 3D Feature

The Hustler Hollywood store played host Thursday night to the impending premiere of director Cash Markman's first foray into directing a 3D adult feature, The Naked Truth.

The comedy, produced by 3D Fantasy Films and marketed by Prism Media Group, stars Dick Smothers, Jr. as a man who makes a deal with the Devil to see the sexual thoughts of everyone around him — his fiancée, co-workers and even the local bartender — by means of wearing a special pair of red/blue 3D glasses.

And while the attendees at Hustler Hollywood weren't privy to quite the same inner knowledge as Smothers' character, they were able to meet some of the feature's stars — Smothers, Aria and Laurie Wallace — and to see some stills from The Naked Truth as well as 3D Fantasy Films' first feature, Teen Beauties in Heat in 3D, by wearing the very same glasses featured in the show they would soon have a chance to purchase.

On hand to mount the slide show, and to explain to anyone interested just how the 3D process works, were 3D Fantasy Films' creative team of John McVicar and Allan Silliphant. Long-time adult fans will remember Silliphant as the writer/director of the original softcore adult 3D film, The Stewardesses.

"Back in 1971, we did it with The Stewardesses, which was really the biggest sex film in history," Silliphant said. "It did bigger box office than Deep Throat, although Deep Throat did better over the long haul. But The Stewardesses played up to 67 weeks in some theaters — almost two years in one theater in Kansas City — and it made the equivalent of $150 million, and it was just basically loops that we shot in 3D."

Silliphant is quick to note, however, that both he and the technology of 3D have gotten a lot better since then, to the point where, with the new productions, viewers feel almost as if they can climb right through the screen.

"The gut-level appeal of 3D is that it allows you to see things with a synthetic sense of reality," explained Silliphant. "Stereo — 3D — makes it possible to trick your emotions to react to what you see as if you're right there, experiencing it. There are no more live sex shows in the United States, but 3D allows you to have the sense that you're at an orgy or wild party. There's nothing like it.

DVDs of The Naked Truth will have their official premier at 3D Fantasy Films' booth at the Adult Entertainment Expo in January, though retailers should be able to stock the discs within two weeks by contacting Prism Media at 800-260-4626.
