CHATSWORTH, Calif.—One of the most revered love stories of all time is about to get retold in much more explicit detail courtesy of Smash Pictures and director Jim Powers.
The Notebook: A XXX Romance Parody, adapted from the 2004 Nick Cassavetes film (which was in turn adapted from the 1996 Nicholas Sparks novel), has up-and-coming starlet Presley Hart and 2012 AVN Best Male Newcomer nominee Richie confirmed to portray the lovestruck couple originally played by Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling.
Because keeping the story intact as a period piece would present too great a challenge given the resources available, Powers plans to update it to a more modern telling of the same basic tale.
"We're going to base it around when the [Twin] Towers were falling, and instead of him being a cotton farmer, the rich guy she marries will be more like a doctor, and she meets this other love intrest," Powers told AVN. "The story itself has been told a zillion times—poor white trash falls in love with rich girl who's too good for him. But what they did to make this thing such a classic is you have the Alzheimer's, and I am putting that into the movie.
"I'm gonna go for it," he continued. "We're hiring some old actors, and we're gonna go for it. Hopefully I can do it some justice. I don't want to be the guy who singlehandedly destroys romance."
The cast will also include Kimberly Kane, Lily LaBeau, Johnny Castle and Logan Pierce.
"We got all the girls that can act," Powers said. "Presley Hart, this is a girl who loves to act. And this is her favorite movie. She wants to do this movie, it's her thing. Richie is one of the best actors out there, he's great for this. I'm going to play this thing straight-up, it's going to be very romantic; we're going to try to be true to the story."
Smash has not yet announced a projected release date for The Notebook: A XXX Romance Parody.
