Smalley Pauly Gets "Unlucky,"

If you tune in regularly to The Howard Stern Show, you may have heard the name "Smalley Pauly" bandied about. You might even have seen Pauly onstage at the 1999 AVNAwards this past January, when he co-presented the award for Best Couples Sex Scene - Video. If none of this sounds familiar, don't worry about it - Pauly's not a porn star. At least, not yet.

Pauly is a New York City bus driver. But he doesn't spend all his time behind the wheel. A self-described "adventurer" and "life-long porn fan," last year he entered and won a small penis contest sponsored by Howard Stern, then got a paid vacation to the SMS/Pleasure Productions Porn Vacation in Mexico. There, he hung out with the talent and, at the urging of Pleasure Productions' honcho Frank Kay and performers Rod Fontana and Alyssa Allure, performed in and directed his first on-camera sex scenes.

"The first day it was like total culture shock for me," said Pauly. "Here I am sitting back in the sunshine, sipping orange juice and watching a girl-girl scene. Nothing in the regular world can compare, not strip clubs, nothing.

"By the third day, everybody's like 'Hey, how ya' doin?' hugging and kissing and everything," he continued. "Then getting to perform was great... and being asked to direct was unbelievable."

When Pauly later came to Pleasure with his pitch for a series about "a regular guy who always just misses the boat, sexually speaking; there's sex going on, but never with him," Kay took him up on it, and The Unlucky Guy came to be. Though he's writing and directing, and may even perform on occasion, Pauly is not the "Unlucky Guy" of the series' title. That role is being filled by unknown Gary O. Like Pauly, O was one of three finalists in the small penis contest who promoter Scott Stein invited to go along on the Mexico vacation. "Gary is perfect for this part," said Pauly.

"He's a good actor and he does some really hysterical stuff."

Pauly said that if the series goes long enough, he hopes to see O perform a sex scene. "After all," said Pauly, "even an unlucky guy can get lucky." \nLook for Pleasure Productions' The Unlucky Guy to debut in August or September.
