Sin City Entertainment has launched a new video-on-demand (VOD) service powered by the DivX Open Video System. rnrn

The new service, available on divx.sincity.com, enables Sin City customers to download secure, full-length DVD-quality films for unlimited viewing over a 30-day period for a rental price of $14.99 per title. rnrn

The new VOD service features a variety of popular Sin City titles from the company's catalog. rnrn

The DivX-powered VOD system differed from similar technologies by providing full-screen, high quality downloads that match the experience of watching a DVD. The downloads incorporate DivX SmartStart, a progressive download feature, allowing users to begin viewing films long before downloads are completed, offering all the convenience of streaming with much higher visual quality. rnrn

"We're excited to offer consumers movies in DivX format," said Scott Stein, spokesman for Sin City Entertainment. "The state of the art technology developed is symbolic of Sin City's commitment to the end user. For the first time, fans will have the ability to enjoy an unlimited amount of DVD-quality downloads over a 30-day period. We have long established ourselves as the leader of quality hardcore entertainment and are excited to be offering 100's of our most popular titles in the new DivX format."rnrn

DivX video compression technology can reduce a DVD video to almost 10 percent of its original size with no loss in quality.rnrn

DivX technology has been downloaded and used by over 75 million people around the world. DivX encoded media requires a proprietary player.
