Sheriff's In-House Porn Film Festival

Columbia County, Florida sheriff's deputies are about to mount their own in-house porn festival - they want to know if some 1,300 films seized in a video store raid last week violate Florida obscenity laws.

They're not doing it out of any "prurient interest" or other entertainment value, but to determine whether there is enough evidence for state prosecutors to make a case.

With obscenity defined by community standards, a jury here would have to decide in due course whether the tapes' contents are obscene in their view.

This case stems from a raid last week at a Lake City video store, said to have been prompted by a citizen's complaint. Published reports indicate deputies making the raid had rented six of the tapes in question to make grounds for the sweep.
