The media keeps seeking out Shane’s World Studios, whose reality porn antics on college campuses brought the studio to the nation’s eye over a year ago. Last night Shane’s World popped up again on Dateline NBC.
Dateline ran a 15-minute segment on Shane's World and their College Invasion series. Publicist for the company and ex-performer, Calli Cox, met with Dateline interviewer Keith Morrison and crew last Monday for the interview. "Ever since the Rolling Stone article came out, we have been bombarded by mainstream press," stated Cox. "We passed up several other opportunities and decided to work with Dateline NBC."
“I think it was pretty good. They were very fair. They showed that we were responsible, that we have testing and that we don’t provide alcohol unlike some Internet companies that do college parties,” Cox told AVN.com “We were pretty pleased the way it turned out. Mainstream media isn’t always nice to the adult industry and maybe that’s starting to change.”
Cox says she benefited from practicing ahead of time, anticipating the questions she would be asked. “By now I pretty much know what to expect. You know they are going to ask certain things, so a little preparation is possible.”
The interview covered the college adult party phenomenon in general, and how the College Invasion series came about. Along with Cox, Dateline also interviewed UCSB Vice Chancellor Michael Young, and several students. In fact, Young agreed with Cox that college students are adults and have the right to participate in anything legal they so choose.
UCSB was the college where College Invasion #1 was shot.
Dateline aired clips from Shane’s World # 22, the first scavenger hunt, which inspired Shane’s World #29 and #32, the videos that began the media blitz. Clips from Shane’s World #32 and College Invasion are also included.
At the end of the segment NBC reported that Shane’s World was stepping down from the “College Invasion business”
“That’s not true. We’ve already shot the third one,” Cox said. In College Invasion #3, Serena South takes over the emcee role that Cox used to fulfill.
Cox says there are no set plans on where to go next. “I’m getting bombarded with emails from college students across the country,” she said “In fact, I just got an email from an Ivy League school.”
The VHS version of College Invasion 2, shot in Cancun, has already been released. The DVD version will be released on November 18th. Shane’s World titles are distributed by New Sensations/Digital Sin.
