Shalton Receives ASACP Service Recognition Award

Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection presented Brandon Shalton, president of Cydata Services, with the ASACP Service Recognition Award during the XBiz Awards last week.

Since 2003, Shalton has provided his services and the use of his proprietary technology to the organization and acted as ASACP’s chief technology officer. Shalton customized technology tools like Web-spidering programs and image-processing applications for ASACP. These tools allow the Compliance and Site Review manager to do more research on valid child pornography sites and facilitate more detailed statistical analysis, according to an ASACP statement. The spidering technology verifies that each ASACP-approved member complies with the organization’s Code of Ethics. It is through these tools that ASACP has the empirical data to prove the professional adult entertainment industry does not traffic in child pornography.

Shalton continues to work with ASACP on a daily basis. He managed the implementation of its redesigned website earlier this year. He constantly modifies the membership system to incorporate new features. He modified cpHotline.org for P2Patrol. Due to this, ASACP was named to the 2005 Associations Advance America Honor Roll, a national awards competition sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives, and received a Certificate of Recognition from California Assemblyman Paul Koretz.

“I am honored to receive the ASACP Service Recognition Award,” Shalton said. “I would like to thank the great members and sponsors who contribute their financial support to allow ASACP to do the work of assisting law enforcement with documenting instances of found child pornography and being able to demonstrate that the online adult entertainment industry does not condone nor associate with the child pornography leads.

“It's ironic that while the adult industry is being persecuted to be the purveyors of child pornography, the data that ASACP has collected statistically proves that the distribution and access to child pornography occurs on non-adult Web hosts, registrars, and billing companies,” he said.

“ASACP, as most other nonprofits, is dependent upon the generosity of others,” said Joan Irvine, executive director of ASACP. “I wish to thank Alec Helmy for starting ASACP, the advisory council members for donating their time, the sponsors for their financial contributions, and, of course Brandon Shalton. His technology and dedication to the ASACP has allowed ASACP to be more effective in its mission.”

ASACP is the organization that helps the adult website industry make a difference in the battle against child pornography. In addition to its hot line, ASACP provides a self-regulatory vehicle for its members through a code of ethics that promotes the protection of children through responsible and professional business practices.
