Shagster.net: “Sex Degrees of Separation”

Perhaps it depends upon someone's point of view, but if an online database for people to keep a record of and rate their sexual conquests is what's needed, Shagster.net has answered the call.

Blame the idea on Kevin Bacon, as Shagster founder Chris does.

"The idea came from the Kevin Bacon Six Degrees of Separation game, where any film star could be linked to [Bacon] within six steps," he said in announcing Shagster's beta-test launch June 1. "This site aims to explore the various worldwide links between individuals via sexual partners. It’ll provide an interesting snapshot of the sexual makeup of our users – one which will, I am sure, provoke debate as the community evolves.

"We’ve been able to provide this service thanks to the generous support of computer games publisher Digital Jesters and Internet retail outlet I Want One Of Those, and we’re grateful for their help in getting this up and running," he continued. "With their support, our goal is for Shagster.net to become the world’s largest and most comprehensive relational relationship database."

After a user registers with Shagster, he or she can log in and begin adding people to their list of conquests – or “submissions,” as the website refers to them. Users can search the current members database for past partners or even invite them by sending an e-mail telling them about Shagster.

"Of course, due to the nature of the site, they other person must 'consent' to be added to your sordid list, so we give them the opportunity to decline your request," the Shagster announcement added. "Once someone has responded to your request you will receive an e-mail informing you which option they chose. Once someone has consented to being shown on your list, you are also added to their list, and may then view their list at will to see if you spot any familiar faces."

Shagster is intended to stay a free database even after the beta period is finished.
