Sexcetera

Frank Martin had brought the Playboy crew down for a day or two to cover news of import such as ersatz cocksucking thinly veiled as frozen banana eating contests. [Caroline Pierce commented, during the contest, that the bananas tasted horrible.] Martin had so much fun he stayed the whole week and got absorbed into the adult industry culture.

Interviewed prior to Jason's date with destiny, Martin had this to say.

Martin: What did we do, get here Sunday? We plan to shoot three days, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. And I'm going to stay an extra couple of days just because it's so nice down here. I have this great room..." Martin was asked if the vacation was all he thought it might be.

Martin: "I have to say this is exactly what I expected. I thought it was going to be a lot of people running around all day getting naked and having a good time. And that's what's going on here."

G. Ross: "Could some of this stuff be a little too strong for Playboy?"

Martin: "We can't show erections or penetrations...BUT...we're very, very good at working around it. So, when you look at the show, there's a lot of sex in Sexcetera. And it's a nasty little show. We just can't get as specifically graphic as an adult film can. But it's pretty damn graphic. We've got very good shooting around it, having a bush or a hand in the right spots to hide it.

G. Ross: "Tonight's little event [Jason] ought to be kind of interesting."

Martin: "Jason is here from Howard Stern. And Barret Moore has been so incredibly gracious to tackle this situation for us. I figure in a place like this, virginity is a valuable commodity. I figure he's probably the only one here except for maybe some of the help. So I think she's been incredibly cool to do that. She's a really sweet lady, a great performer and fun to be around. We checked with some of the other performers and they said, if anyone, Barret should do it. She's the sweetest one."

Martin dishes out some history of Sexcetera.

Martin: "Sexcetera started a year ago in November. They did two, one-hour shows that were awful. So they got rid of the old production team and they brought in my company. Our background is that we do a lot of network TV. Last year we did CBS' anniversary special..and we decided that we would bring network production values and discipline to a show like this. That's why I think the show is so good. Each hour features six different segments. Each segment features a recurring reporter. Each reporter sort of has their own sort of territory. There's undercover sex; there's extreme sex which this particular episode falls under, that's Suzanna Breslin. She does all those stories; there's sex in art; the feminist side of sex; there's the lighter side of sex.

"The show presents a real cross section of alternative lifestyles. And it's not all about the adult entertainment industry, either. That's just one facet of the show. As often as possible, we try to make it about real people."

G. Ross: "Have you ever come across something that was even shocking to you?"

Martin: "The Houston 500 was pretty shocking, the extreme nature of it. It was like a fuck factory. But, I don't know if shocking is the word, maybe interesting. We're going to do a story on pony girls which is something to be this fetish coming up and I'm hearing more and more about it. I haven't seen anything on it. The costumes are fantastic. I love the costumes."
