If you’re Sex Z Pictures, and your company has finished its first, largely successful year doing story-driven features, there’s only one thing to do for an encore: Gonzo. Sex Z plans on getting dirty in year two and diversifying its line with a series of sex-only gonzo features.
Up first and taking their place alongside year-one efforts like “Phoenix Rising” and “Bedford Wives” will be new titles “Lingerie Sluts” and “All About Anal.” Providing continuity will be Roy Karch, the award-winning director who handled some of the company’s first wave of features and who served as producer on the shoot of the first two new releases, and Richard Monfort, who captured the new films. The new wave of directors, according to Jeff Mullen, president of Sex Z Pictures’ contracted media and marketing representation All Play Media, will be “a mix of knowns and unknowns.” The known quantities include Digital DK and Rod Fontana; the newer faces named thus far are J. Easton and Will Ryder.
"It would have been very difficult for Sex Z to break into this market by shooting a few abstract gonzo titles because of the proliferation of product already on store shelves. Bo [Kenney, Sex Z Pictures owner] felt that it was best to get a foot into the marketplace with some excellent publicity and some longer-lasting feature titles. Bo has also greenlighted some special marketing that we have done such as the wild porn parties that took place in Hollywood that Sex Z Pictures is getting famous for throwing,” Mullen told AVN.com.
The initial titles will both be released in late September. Two a month are planned, which when added to the already existing feature schedule will double the company’s output.
