LOS ANGELES—Add another case of a celebrity sex tape catapulting its participants to even greater fame. Shauna Sand, star of Vivid Entertainment’s Shauna Sand Exposed has joined the cast of the next season of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew on VH1.
Sand will check into the Pasadena Recovery Center tomorrow, according to TMZ.
After her hardcore sex tape was released late last year, Sand went on to host parties for Vivid and then signed with the company at the Adult Entertainment Expo in January. She presented an award to former Miss U.S.A., Kelli McCarty, who herself starred in the Vivid Entertainment feature Breathless.
Sand splashed onto the celebrity scene with her Playboy Playmate of the Month centerfold in May 1996. In April of that year she married Lorenzo Lamas, star of the Renegade TV series, whom she met through a guest appearance on the series. They had three children together and got divorced in 2005. She’s also appeared on Charmed, Las Vegas and in the movie The Deviants, among others.
Celebrity Rehab has cast many sex stars before, resulting in high ratings. In 2008, Mary Carey entered PRC to receive treatment for alcoholism. In a spin-off of the enormously popular show, former adult star Penny Flame was featured in Sex Rehab, where she received treatment for sex addition. Flame was subsequently cast in Sober House, a series taped post-rehab.
Wrestler Joanie “Chyna” Laurer and American Idol contestant Jessica Sierra appeared on the show’s first season. Both had their own celebrity sex tapes. Laurer’s One Night in Chyna was released by Red Light District and Sierra’s Jessica Sierra Superstar was released by Vivid Entertainment.
Also on that season was Jaimee Foxworth, who starred in Family Matters as a child and then went on to an X-rated career.
Tom Sizemore and Mindy McCready are two more former Celebrity Rehab cast members that had sex tapes released through Vivid Entertainment, with McCready’s streeting just last month.
