NEW YORK CITY—A special performance of a new high-tech multimedia event inspired by the life of Adult Hall of Fame Legend Brittany Andrews will take place this Saturday, June 16th at Dixon Place in Manhattan.
Andy Warhol protégé and director Penny Arcade has teamed up with Miss Andrews and award-winning writer/performer Raquel Almazan to preview this work in progress that blends chic performance art along with sensual Butoh dance and stylish audio/visual multimedia. The play made its debut this past October to a sold-out crowd and was met with a standing ovation.
"The response we had from October performance was amazing!" said Andrews. "We've been getting such positive feedback from the audience and this whole project has been super-exciting and very fulfilling artistically. It has been amazing to work with Raquel and Penny—they are extremely creative and we've been working so intensely over the last few years putting this amazing piece together! I believe the script is revolutionary and makes some great political statements and it's been a huge pleasure working with all these talented multimedia artists. There are so many aspects—animation, dance, sound/visuals—it is such a mind-blowing experience for the audience!"
In this dark comedy, fictional porn star Sensora (based on Miss Andrews) joins Butoh dance with narrative text using the audience as pornographer.
As NASA chooses her for the making of the film Porning the Planet, Sensora attempts to deal with her multiple personality disorder through the building of a porn persona. On her way to meet "Hugh Hiefner," our savior, Sensora's journey follows her from glam porn star to snuff assassinated President; to finally as a refugee in outer space, launching into the galaxy. Sensora's metamorphosis challenges our notion of how pornography has altered our method of communicating and connecting with each other and ourselves. All multi-media in the show reflect images we download from her mind. Her provocative memories, her violent fantasies and her daily rituals are witnessed and downloaded for mass absorption into the collective consciousness.
"Brittany has been the central muse and political driving force of this project," said director/performer Almazan. "She has been behind the detailed development of all sides, angles and takes on what makes the porn industry operate financially, and on an individual emotional scale."
Almazan brought Artist Penny Arcade on board as director three years ago at the start of the project.
"Brittany and I have worked closely together with Penny to create a piece that is not victim-based, but rather a multi-media production and possible screenplay that examines the audience (consumers), the producers of porn and the 'stars' themselves in an honest, brutal and enlightening journey," Almazan said. "Brittany personifies the difficult challenge in creating this piece in a society which does not want certain truths revealed. This piece is similar to Brittany's soul, uncompromising, complex, and delves into the unanswered. I am grateful to her for being so giving, sharing of herself in the development of this piece.
This special performance will take place at 9:30 pm on Saturday, June 16th, 2012 at Dixon Place, 161A Chrystie Street, New York, NY 10002; (212) 219-0736.
Admission/suggested donation at the door: $5.
