Sasha Grey Launches Grey Art

LOS ANGELES - Sasha Grey has begun production for her new company Grey Art, a full-service adult film production company co-owned with producer/director Oren Cohen. The F@%k Junkie is the first title for Grey Art, and will be released domestically this summer.

Not only is The F@%k Junkie Grey Art's first release, it is also the directorial debut for Sasha Grey.

“I've waited a long time to sow my seeds as a director, because I wanted to have the perfect platform," said Grey, the 2008 AVN Female Performer of the Year. "Together Oren and I have created Grey Art as a means to deliver our vision(s) to a varied audience, and I look forward to the continuing challenge of being a modern day female entrepreneur.”

Grey, who is featured on the May cover of AVN magazine, has recently garnered national attention for her starring role in Oscar-winner Steven Soderbergh’s The Girlfriend Experience, slated for national release (and same-day DVD release) May 22.

In an interview in the May AVN, Grey told David Sullivan, “Foremost, I’d like to produce indie films. I have roughly five scripts written at this moment, but there really isn’t any ‘dream project.’ I wouldn’t want to sell myself short with one goal.”

She offered some additional insights into her creative agenda. “From Day One I’ve been about change and still am. Too many people settle into a routine, and that’s just too easy. I want to show people that we can make adult films creative and kinky at the same time. We shouldn’t be ashamed of our sexual freedom. We should break rules and make new ones.”

“I’m extremely excited to work with Sasha,” Cohen said. “Our visions and aesthetic sensibilities are remarkably similar.  The nature of our partnership feels incredibly natural and positive, far more positive than anything else I’ve encountered in the adult space.  It’s great to have a partner in crime on this strange journey.”

Cohen told AVN that he met Sasha through her publicist, Brian Gross. “I thought that her vision and my vision were pretty similar, we both kind of did things our own way. I said, let’s meet up, I think we can do some good stuff together. It just kind of fell in place really nicely.”

Grey Art’s first big release, The F@%k Junkie, is now in pre-production. “There will be a casting in about a week for that,” Cohen said.

“We do have a large body of movies in the can and ready to go,” he said, but the company’s debut will be Grey’s debut as well. “She wants to direct and I think it would be a cool way to open the company’s doors.”

“Sasha will be more involved in her own movies, but ultimately they’re all under our umbrella. Her creative input, from oversight of box design to everything else, will be involved in everything under our Grey Art umbrella.”

A new website, TheFuckJunkie.com, will also be launched as a marketing campaign to promote the movie. According to Cohen, it will go live within a week.

Grey is also featured in this month’s Rolling Stone in which she talks to journalist Vanessa Grigoriadis about her take on porn, fantasies, feminism and the transition from bondage to mainstream. The piece was photographed by Theo Wenner, son of Jann Wenner. The photos were taken last month in New York City exclusively for the magazine.
