SPRINGER STRIP STEAMS BRITISH WATCHDOGS

art credit: Universal Studios \nLONDON - Television watchdogs are steamed over a raunchy lap dance routine presented on a British broadcast of Jerry Springer UK, the British version of the popular and controversial American television show.

British newspaper reports say complaints flooded in after families watching the 8 p.m. London time broadcast were stunned to see "PVC-wearing" women who stripped from the waist down. But television officials say the images were ones children were used to seeing on British television, even though the images remained suggestive despite pixilation (distortion).

The Independent Television Commission logged 53 complaints, according to the London Evening Standard.

The Springer installment was called "Sexy Secrets Unveiled," featuring a line of men and women appearing in PVC - including one couple who said they were "kinky, rubber-loving hussies." Then two lap dancers performed for male partners, with the television broadcasters obscuring them below the waist, the Standard says.

The ITC says the network, Anglia, claimed "glamorous parties and fancy dress are well within children's terms of reference…the treatment went beyond the expectations of family audiences."

The segment was first broadcast in the U.S. in early October.
