A tanning salon here is closed, after Lima police arrested the owner Monday and charged him with offering customers free tanning sessions in return for sexual favors.
Offically, that translates to two counts of sexual imposition and four counts of solicitations for 50-year-old Michael Swanger, owner of the Alpha Tanning Salon. Police had been investigating the salon since March 1998, when the Toledo Blade says they first heard of "improprieties" at the business.
"We had received several complaints from customers who said that the owner allegedly asked them to perform sexual favors in exchange for free tanning," police Major James Thorburn told the Blade. Police used undercover female officers in the investigation, the paper says, and four of the charges resulted from their visits.
Police obtained a search warrant and searched Alpha Tanning midday Monday, then arrested Swanger. But when asked whether anyone took him up on his offers, Thorburn asked, "Who would tell?"
