She went topless at poolside and now she's going behind bars. A 65-year-old Saskatchewan woman refused to pay a $200 fine for mischief, so she now has to spend a month in jail.
Evangeline Godron's attorney tells the Canadian Broadcasting Company it's not yet decided whether the case will go to a higher court, but James Rybchuk says Canadian high courts might have to review the question of topless women now.
He says Canadian laws regarding the topless are about twenty years behind those in Europe and fifty years behind those covering men.
Canadian women can go topless at Ontario beaches because a college student challenged Ontario laws. Rybchuk thinks Gordon can still make a similar impact in Saskatchewan. But a judge says Godron knew a woman could not swim topless at the pool and police would be called. She says she challenged a discriminatory rule.
