SCOTLAND YARD TRIES TO BEAT THE PORN STALKERS

E-mail flooding with pornographic and similarly explicit messages has Scotland Yard probing ways to stop the incidents, while an Internet security company says it can stop them from getting all the way into your e-mail if you don't want them.

Content Technologies has warned British and other organizations they risk damaging credibility, morale, and performance unless they take such incidents as porn e-mail flooding more seriously, according to M2 Communication's news service.

The company says its new MAILSweeper program, part of its MINEsweeper group of software, scans incoming and outgoing e-mail and identifies threatening messages and attachments. It can also keep pornographic images and text from reaching computer desktops, the company says.

In late July, there emerged reports that members of the British Parliament had been targeted with pornographic e-mails. "MPs are constantly under the spotlight, so receiving this sort of material could have a serious impact on their credibility," says Content marketing manager Chris Heslop, "not to mention being very disturbing. What's more worrying is that this doesn't just happen to MPs. Company employees and those in educational establishments are also vulnerable."
