Rock and Roll Never Forgets

Not the Ramones, the band made up of AVN award-winning porn performer Kurt Lockwood, AVN publisher Tim Connelly and production coordinator, Ed Webb, along with a bevy of porn starlet back up singers and dancers, including Samantha Ryan, Monica Mayhem, Karissa DeViance and Terri Tan gave props to legendary rockers the Ramones and made it the charity event of the early summer recently. It was all done in memory of members Dee Dee, Joey and Johnny, earning $3,000, in support of the cure for the causes that took the rockers lives.

On June 24, 2005, the band presented Sharon Mitchell, the executive director of Adult Industry Medical (AIM), with a check for $1,000 as a donation for the AIM, Outpatient Detox Bed Program in memory of Dee Dee Ramone.

The contribution was a third of the proceeds from a sold-out performance for the group on June 11, 2005 at the Whisky A Go Go. Billed as Kurt Lockwood’s Birthday Party Pornopalooza, and hosted by Ron Jeremy and Taylor Wane, the group played a blistering, one-hour set of Ramones songs, capped off by encores featuring Frank Meyer and Bruce Duff of Sweet Justice. For the final encore, Blitzkreig Bop, Evan Seinfeld of Biohazard, also known as porn’s Spyder Jonez, joined the group on lead vocals.

“This was a wonderful gift and the most fun I’ve had in public in a long time,” Mitchell laughed, referring to her performance with the band for the Dee Dee Ramone written punk hit, “Chinese Rocks.” Lockwood, the lead singer and guitarist, added, “I played with Dee Dee and the rest of the band each have some sort of history with the Ramones in one way or the other.”

Remaining proceeds will go to The Lymphoma Research Foundation in memory of Joey Ramone and the Cedars Sinai Cancer Research Center in memory of Johnny Ramone. The AVN Foundation, created as a not-for-profit corporation in order to give 100 percent of monies directly to select charities, helped along with sponsors, Coquette Lingerie, Virgin Cola, Paradise Marketing and DMK Skin Care.

“What a great way to make money for charity,” Connelly added. “Have a party, play some music, celebrate a birthday and rock the porn industry, it’s just what this business needs. Next month, it’s my turn and we’ll find a another club to play some more songs and bring along some special guests as well, so make sure not to miss the next one.” AVN President Paul Fishbein should be advised, the band will perform “Rock and Roll High School” as a belated birthday present in his honor.

Not the Ramones will be performing again over the summer at clubs around Hollywood, including King King, The Knitting Factory and select venues with dates announced here and through www.kurtlockwood.com.
