Ric's Cabaret Aims for Upscale Black Cliental with Club Onyx

The original Rick’s Cabaret is currently being converted into the original Club Onyx, an upscale venue that Rick’s Cabaret management hopes will draw in black professionals, businessmen, and professional athletes.

"We are taking our highly successful Rick's Cabaret format into one of the fastest growing demographic segments - the universe of highly successful and increasingly affluent African-American males," according to Eric Langan, CEO of Rick's Cabaret. "Up to now, this has been a woefully underserved market in Texas and we'll change that overnight.”

According to the national census of 2000, approximately 25 percent of the 2 million plus population of Houston is black.

The club intends to cater to the black market by featuring hip-hop and R&B music, as well as a diverse multi-racial group of entertainers on staff. “Our target audience is primarily to the African-American executive and professional, business travelers, local athletes, and those who are visiting Houston for ball games, conventions and other activities," said Langan.

Houston is the home of the NFL’s Houston Texans, the NBA’s Houston Rockets, the WNBA’s Houston Comets, and the Houston Astros, a major league baseball team.

The club was completely remodeled recently, with new sound systems and state-of-the-art lighting.

Rick’s Cabaret owns and operates seven adult nightclubs, as well as a few other adult properties. The company is one of the very few adult businesses traded on the NASDAQ Small Cap market.
