Red Light District Moves Foreign Distribution In-House

With the expiration today of a three-year deal with their foreign rights representative, Cal Vista International, gonzo powerhouse the Red Light District has decided to self-distribute their titles in foreign territories from hereon out.

Stressing that the decision to deal directly with global retailers in no way reflected upon Cal

Vista’s abilities, Red Light District’s David Joseph said that the decision to self-distribute was simply a matter of economics and control. “We’re looking at Red Light as a global company.

We’ve grown to the point that taking this company to the next level requires global control of our product.”

By consolidating the rights to Red Light’s catalog, Joseph anticipates having more leverage when negotiating broadcast deals and expects that tighter control of his masters will reduce pirating, a problem that is currently of epidemic proportions for the adult industry.

“This decision has nothing to do with Cal Vista. It’s not them at all. They were fantastic and they’ve been with us since the beginning,” Joseph told AVN.com. “We walked into their office with one title and they took us on and they supported us. I believe that what they did for us in foreign markets was a very important factor in our growth.”

Cal Vista’s Danni Duran wished Red Light well, acknowledging that self-distribution was the right move at this point for the gonzo company.

“In the last three years we’ve had the pleasure of working with them. We built them up across the globe and, ya know what, it was a great ride and I only wish them the best,” Duran said.

“David has taken the company into a new level and it’s time. It’s hard for some people to understand, but there is a time for people to move on. It’s time for them to deal direct with Europe. Now it’s time to find another company for us to build up.”

Red Light will begin dealing with foreign customers directly on Monday. For more info call 1-800-288-1077.
