Recall On Hold; Mary Carey Hold Fundraiser Screening of Club Carrie

The California recall election has been postponed by order of a federal appeal court who ruled that the punch card voting system, similar to those used in Florida during the controversial presidential election in 2000, used in six California counties would produce flawed election results.

The recall vote, originally scheduled for October 7, has been held off until new voting systems can be installed, which will take until at least March.

That suits Kick Ass contract performer Mary Carey just fine. “I’m happy the election got postponed because it gives me more time to beat Arnold Schwarzenegger,” Carey told AVN.com while resting from her campaigning in Las Vegas.

In fact, tomorrow night the big breasted porn star will hold another fundraiser for her campaign. She’ll be screening her new adult video Club Carrie at the Vine Theater in Hollywood.

Before the premiere of Club Carrie, Carey will give a campaign speech that will include her views on the decision to delay the recall election.

While civilians, that is citizens of California interested in supporting Carey’s campaign will have to “donate” $20 to see the video, members of the adult industry can come for free if they RSVP by calling the Kick Ass Pictures offices.

“The Vine Theater holds 600 people, so there’s plenty of room for everyone,” said campaign manager and Kick Ass Pictures president Mark Kulkis. “To guarantee seats, we ask that people call our office to RSVP. But if you show up at the door and are a bona fide member of the adult industry, you should have no problem getting in.”

A half-page ad was taken out in the LA Weekly to promote the event.

A huge mainstream media turnout is predicted, as Carey has announced that she will be addressing the recent appeals court decision to delay the recall election until March in greater detail.

“Everyone who’s anyone will be there,” Kulkis added. “And we won’t eject anyone for pulling the old ‘cock in the popcorn’ trick.”

According to Kulkis, after the screening, there will be a party at the Star Shoes across the street.

A three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which based their ruling in part on evidence presented that the state of California had already deemed the punch-card voting method as inadequate, issued a stay of its ruling to give state attorneys time to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Carey doesn’t intend to join Schwarzenegger or others who have suggested they will fight the decision. “I’m not really concerned one way or the other. I’d like the extra time to campaign more but if not – life goes on,” Carey said.

Tomorrow Carey returns to Los Angeles to participate in the last week of Playboy TV’s top rated show Totally Busted, after which she expects to start shooting Mary Carey Rules 3.  Of course, Carey notes, there will be even more campaigning.

The American Civil Liberties Union sought to delay the recall by arguing that the punch cards would provide flawed results and that because the rest of the state had more accurate technology, voters in those counties would not be represented equally.

Most counties already have newer methods of voting, including touch screens. However Santa Clara, Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, Mendocino and Solano counties; the six counties that still use punch cards, represent 40 percent of the vote.

Call (323) 981-1700 to RSVP. The doors open at 8p.m., the screening starts at 9p.m. The Vine Theater is located at 6321 Hollywood Blvd. (just west of Vine)
