Randy West Is Back in the Saddle Again

CHATSWORTH, Calif. - Porn icon Randy West is returning to hardcore performance, at age 59, after a long, self-imposed layoff. His comeback scene was shot on March 1 for It's a Daddy Thing 3 for Patrick Collins and Elegant Angel.

West, an AVN and XRCO Hall of Famer, had not been in front of a camera for almost two years, since he shot his final scene for his long-running series Up and Cummers.

And he hadn't worked for a company besides his own for a full decade, since he appeared in a 1997 volume of his friend Bill Witrock's Real Sex Magazine.

West told AVN he intends to work part-time only, "not regular like the old days. When the situation is right for me and the company, when we have the right girls and the dates are free, all that kind of stuff, we'll try to book something."

He has contacted several companies, including Naughty America, Digital Playground and Vivid, about working and received a positive response.

In It's a Daddy Thing 3, West worked with starlet Paulina James, "a very pretty girl, very hot, very friendly, very professional. It was a good way to get back in the saddle."

The scene involved some dialogue, but no written script. Collins, West said, set up the situation, and "we just kind of went with it. I give [Paulina] credit, she’s pretty good at running with stuff. We played the ad lib dialogue off each other good.

"It reminded me of the old days when people used to be pretty professional and take care of business and still knew how to have fun."

Collins told AVN that working with West was "Fantastic! The guy’s a pro. He’s one of the guys that can act in this business, and he did an incredible job. Paulina had a great time."

It was Collins who pitched the job to West when they ran into each other at the AVN Adult Expo in January, where, West said, "I was kind of amazed at how many girls still wanted to work with me.

"I thought, you know, aaah, the old man, he’s pretty much done. But I’m in pretty good physical shape for an old guy. The funny thing is, once I let my hair go gray and stopped coloring it, the girls seemed to like it a lot better.

"So I said OK, let’s think this over. Why don’t I give it a shot? See if I still like it, if I can still do it. If I can I’ll come back as a part-timer."

The Collins shoot, he said, "was like old times, I got to see some friends I hadn’t seen for a while. The sex scene went really good, no problem there. I just had a good time."

West moved to Las Vegas in January 2006, after his home in Chatsworth Reservoir was almost destroyed by the autumn wildfires of 2005, and after he decided to call it quits with producing Up and Cummers.

He said he’s been in some talks with producers in Las Vegas about returning to in a similar series as a director-performer, but nothing definite has yet materialized.

And, following the lead of Jenna Jameson and Ron Jeremy, he has a book proposal with a publisher, backed up by "a good writer, a good book agency" and a sizeable potential audience.

He said that when he joined MySpace.com he was amazed by the amount of mail he got from fans. Many kept telling him he should do a book: "You’ve been around a long time, you got a lot of stories, we’d like to read them. So finally I hooked something up."

The response, he added, has been even stronger from women than from male fans. "Women are out of the closet now regarding porn. Mainstream publishers are starting to realize that."

And now that West has decided to jump back in front of the camera, it looks like there are still more chapters to come in his 40-plus year career in adult movies.
