On the last night of Qwebec Expo, show attendees gathered in the plush Caf’Con Cabaret at the hotel for the 2nd Annual Best Adult Awards ceremony. Walking into the Caf’Con was like stepping into a scene from Moulin Rouge: red walls lined with Toulouse Lautrec paintings, the balconies and balustrades, and all the small white lights.
Several VIP invitees were enticed to come early by the complimentary drinks and hors d’oeuvres, and by 9:30 p.m., all the tables were full and the balconies near the bar were lined with attendees. Alternative rock band Meanbone opened the awards and provided spunky musical interludes throughout the show.
“YNOT Bob” Rice hosted the two-hour ceremony and introduced the award presenters with his usual grace and wit. Rice was also a presenter for several awards, as well as the recipient in the “Male Personality” and the special “Hall of Fame” categories. YNOT took home the “Best Resource” award.
Several companies won more than one award, including AVN, whose AVN Online division was selected by the judges as “Best Adult Company.” AVN’s Aly Drummond received the award for “Female Personality.”
Braincash also took home two awards: “Best Amateur Site” (MelissaDoll.com) and “Best Gay Site” (BoysCasting.com). TopBucks took the awards for “Best Lesbian Site” (LesboErotica.com) and “Best Mature Site” (MILFSeeker.com).
Near the end of the ceremony – in between the presenters, the band’s contribution, and the video clip montage of all the nominees and the commercials – Qwebec Expo organizer Michel Plante took a moment to say a few words and pay tribute to Greg Gregory, the renowned photographer and content producer who passed away suddenly in August.
After the awards, attendees were invited to Club Le Dome to continue the partying until the wee hours amidst the dancing and gyrating bodies of Montreal’s holiday weekend revelers. Some chose to veer off towards more adult-oriented entertainment, of which the city also has in abundance.
Eventually, by mid-morning the next day, the show had come to a rather sleepy end with most attendees making their way back to the airports and towns from whence they came. Some of the locals and a few remaining show stragglers enjoyed a hangover-recovery lunch together, and the 2nd Annual Qwebec Expo officially came to a close.
“Patty and I are very satisfied with the turnout of Qwebec Expo this year,” said Plante after the show. “We received nothing but positive comments and appreciation from the 200-odd attendees who came to visit us this year, with a promise of coming back next year. We are already looking ahead and taking notes for the third edition of Qwebec Expo that will be held again in Montreal in 2006. And next year, the show will be one week earlier: the weekend before Labor Day."
