For the second straight year, Pierre Woodman won for Best European Director and Private won for Best European Movie, this time for Tatiana, in Hot Video Magazine's version of the AVN Awards, the Hot d'Or.\n Lisa, released by Sin City in the United States, won for Best American Movie and Kris Kramski, who took home an award last year for Best New Director, grabbed the Best American Director Award. Private's winning streak continued as Woodman's The Fugitive won the Platinum Movie 1997, voted on by French video retailers. VCA's Cafe Flesh 2 won the AVN Award for Best American Movie not yet released in France (distributed by Anais). That award was handed out by AVN publisher Paul Fishbein, along with Stephanie Swift and Juli Ashton.\n Philip Mond took home the honor for Best New American Director for Zazel and Mark Davis' performance in Michael Ninn's Decadence won him honors for Best American Actor. "I'm happy about the award," Davis told AVN. "But the last I looked, I was still British. I guess it's because I speak English."\n Anabolic's World Sex Tour won for Best American Pro-Am Series and French superstar Laure Sainclair won the award for Best European Actress for her role in Video Marc Dorcel's Les Nuits de la Presidente. Jenna Jameson won another Best American Actress award, this time for Wicked Pictures' Sexe de Feu, Coeur de Glace, distributed in France by Video Marc Dorcel.\n "I'd like to thank Wicked Pictures, Steve Orenstein, Brad Willis, Video Marc Dorcel, Brad Armstrong and Hot Video for this award," Jameson exclaimed. "I love you all."\n Jenna, however, didn't love everyone earlier in the evening as she was denied entrance to the show premises when she arrived early and had trouble getting a ride back to the Royal Hotel and Casino later that evening. Meanwhile, Jameson has dominated the American actress categories at these awards in recent years.\n Stacy Valentine was a jubilant and nervous winner for Best New American Starlet. "I'd just like to thank everyone at VCA, Russ and Betty Hampshire, for making this all possible," Valentine said in a short, but very sincere acceptance speech.\n The award for Best Box Cover went to Andrew Blake's Paris Chic and the prize for Best European New Starlet was snagged by Jade.\n This year's Hot d'Or returned to Cannes after a one year hiatus in Paris. Eschewing the Royal Hotel and Casino in nearby Mondelieu, which hosted the awards for four years before last year's show at the Paris Lido, Hot Video opted to house the show in a large, opulent, multi-level villa, which held 1,300 people, who squeezed into the various outdoor and indoor areas.\n Different parts of the villa were decorated in different themes and with food to match. The middle eastern patio offered just what you'd expect: middle eastern food, music, a live camel and a snake woman. The upper pool deck served as a relaxation center, while an American-style patio housed American-style food, Frank Sinatra music and live jazz. Gambling tables and unique servers were scattered throughout the villa.\n Overlooking all of Cannes, the villa provided a breathtaking view of an absolutely perfect Cannes evening. While the festivities began around 7:30 p.m., the awards started well after 11 p.m. and lasted nearly two hours. The highlights were the Hot d'Or d'Honneurs, given for special achievements in the European adult industry. This year's recipients were producer Marc Dorcel, French actress Juli Channel, American director John Stagliano and American Internet provider Internet Entertainment Group for the release of The Pamela Anderson Home Video (known in the U.S. as Pam & Tommy Lee ( Hardcore & Uncensored).
