Private Applauds High Court Ruling Favoring UK Adult Video Sales

The London High Court ruling this week allowing adult videos to be sold in sex shops legally - overriding the British Board of Film Classification - was hailed as "a breakthrough" by Private Media Group CEO Berth Milton. nrnMilton said Private is now "optimistic" that a "more worldly official view" will take hold, even though the British Home Secretary has called for legislation to effectively overturn the High Court decision. nrnPrivate said it's had to produce special softcore versions of some of its most highly-regarded, signature videos for the British market prior to the High Court ruling. nrnThe High Court ruling came at a time when Private was well along in discussions about a possible listing on the British stock market, as well as the recent launch of the Private Blue television channel. nrnThe BBFC had appealed its own Video Appeals Committee's decision to approve seven porn films for sale in the U.K. nrn"Obviously, it's a breakthrough," Milton said. "While the UK laws to date have been out of step with most of the world, we know from our own presence there that our 'soft' videos and magazines are in great demand, as is our flagship Website. nrn"Up to now, the government, customs authorities and film censors in the UK have had one attitude, while the general public seems to have another," he continued. "With the advent of global communications and particularly the Internet, adult material is widely accessible to responsible adults, either as individuals and couples." nrnMilton said the High Court ruling, if it isn't overturned by any new legislation, means Private and other adult filmmakers wouldn't have to produce special editions just for the British market any longer, saving extra costs on production and distribution.
