Postal Inspectors To Probe Porn Mailings

Federal postal inspectors plan to probe an incidence of unwanted porn showing up in about 40 residential mailboxes recently – but not necessarily because it involved porn.

U.S. Postmaster Daniel Foley told reporters the mailings included some with postage stripped off already-mailed material, that were placed in people's mailboxes in a particular area in the northeast side of the city.

The known crime is reusing postage, even if it ends up not going through the mail again, according to postal inspector Sam Owens; but it isn't quite so clear whether distributing porn – even unsolicited porn – equals a federal crime.

Davenport police are joining the probe into the porn mailing, according to an Iowa television news station.
