Porno Goes Bingo

Pornography, booze, rock n’ roll and bingo? A strange combination maybe, but nonetheless, a great time was had by all last night, as Erotica LA and VCA got together to host an evening of Rock-N-Roll Bingo.

The monthly event, coordinated by socially conscious rock ladies Shelly Brown and Sybil Nicholson, takes place at Crane’s Hollywood Tavern. In addition to Erotica LA, sponsors include Playboy.com, Wanted List, Amoeba Music, and LA Weekly.

All the money made on bingo cards was donated to the Free Speech Coalition, a trade association for the adult industry whose mission is to safeguard the industry from oppressive governmental regulation and to promote good business practices within the industry. Over $1,500 was raised for the organization, more than the bingo soiree has made, up until this point.

On this particular evening, the numbers and letters were called by adult performer Joanna Angel, star of Eon McKai’s latest title Neu Wave Hookers and punk rocker Tim Armstrong, lead singer of Rancid. Past callers have included Scott Schriner of Weezer, Tom Morello of Audioslave and Brian Ray of Paul McCartney’s band.

Amongst the hundreds of rockers in attendance, were director Eon McKai, James Deen, Dana DeArmond, Scott Schriner, Peter Reynolds (VCA), Katie Smith (Playboy.com) and members of the Free Speech Coalition.

“The night was a huge success,” enthused Erotica LA marketing director Cindy Cheer. “There was a great turnout, and a lot of fun to be had.”

Bingo winners, including yours truly, received an array of prizes; from Amoeba Music prize bags to porn packs to concert tickets to Erotica LA passes.

Erotica LA is sponsoring several events to gear up for the 2006 show, scheduled for June 23–25 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. In celebration of its 10-year anniversary, Erotica LA is anticipating their largest crowd in Erotica history.
