Porn-Surfing Official Ends Re-Election Bid

Adams County Commissioner Thomas Collins withdrew his re-election bid August 11, over a month after he was exposed as having surfed adult Websites during his working hours.

Collins was forced to acknowledge the porn surfing after the Hanover Evening Sun obtained county records of the site visits, saying he knew Adams County had an Internet use monitoring system and that he was being tracked, according to the Associated Press

That system recorded over 450 such porn site visits in a three-month period starting last November, the AP added, but Collins also said he couldn't stop himself, blaming his action on stress. Adams County began blocking porn sites, instant message programs, and Web-based e-mail from county computers since April 1, the AP said.

Collins was said to be under some pressure to end his re-election campaign, including and especially from state Rep. Stephen Maitland, who told the Gettysburg Times he had no issues with Collins but didn't think he could win re-election.
