Porn-Related Stories Make Headlines in Weekend’s Mainstream Press

Mainstream media had a field day this weekend with the adult entertainment industry, as porn-related stories were featured prominently in several major publications.

On Saturday, porn superstar Jenna Jameson was the subject of a lengthy article on the front page of the Los Angeles Times’ Calendar section. The actress was interviewed at a West Hollywood bookstore signing for her recently released memoir, How to Make Love Like a Porn Star: A Cautionary Tale.

The article focused on Jameson’s successful crossover into mainstream celebrity and contained comments from the book’s publisher, Judith Regan, as well as from teenage female fans lined up to get the star’s autograph.

Variety, in its September 13-19 issue, spotlighted an article on the DVD boom in the adult video industry. The story emphasized that in the adult industry, direct-to-DVD releases are not a sideline, as in Hollywood, but are the core of the business. The piece quoted Adult Video News associate editor Peter Warren, who oversees the magazine’s DVD section.

Video Store Magazine, in its Erotica section, covered the re-release on DVD of Red, White & Blue, a 1969 documentary about a commission appointed by Lyndon Johnson to determine the lasting definitions of obscenity and pornography. Produced by Ferd and Beverly Sebastian and archived for many years, the movie will be issued on DVD by Orlando, Fla.-based Panama Films.
