Porn Foes' Activity On Main St. At Issue

A religious group that passed out literature this weekend outside an adult bookstore has found themselves fighting for their free speech rights.

Members of Courageous Christians United (CCU) passed out fliers to passers-by and stuck them beneath the windshield wipers of parked cars outside the F Street Bookstore.

The fliers said serial killer Ted Bundy, cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer and the Third Reich are "soul mates"because they were all "addicted to pornography."

The members of CCU say they have a constitutional right to distribute their literature - unfortunately they have to defend that right by fighting a city ordinance banning the placement of handbills on automobiles.

CCU filed a lawsuit contending the ordinance is unconstitutional. CCU leader Steve Klein said the group likely will seek $50,000 plus attorneys' fees.

Christians United is a nonprofit group that frequently distributes religious literature on streets throughout Southern California, New York, Florida and Washington.
