Popular Gay Shopping Company Launches Lesbian Site

Popular gay consumer products company Village Lighthouse Inc. has launched a lesbian-specific site, 10percentGIRL.com, tailored to the lesbian community’s varied interests.

According to a press release issued this week, 10percentGIRL addresses a growing need for high-quality merchandise that reflects the lesbian lifestyle, including music, movies, books, apparel, greeting cards, calendars, novelties, and other items. The merchandise is carefully selected from artisans and other vendors, with particular attention paid to the personalities and lifestyles of today’s lesbian women.

The new site joins the 10-year-old 10percent.com as a retail division of Village Lighthouse Inc. Its creation reflects the company’s allegiance to offering more products to the lesbian community. “There has been a marked difference in the amount of attention that lesbians have received in the marketplace compared to gay men, and it’s something that we intend to change,” Village Lighthouse President Ron Miller says in a recent press release. “10percentGIRL.com is our biggest step yet in that direction. We’re proud to offer the lesbian community a Web site that they can call their own.”

The site will be buoyed by extensive promotional efforts, including a large print campaign spanning New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Houston, and Washington D.C. A broadcast campaign including spots on OutQ and Sirius Satellite and an online campaign will follow shortly thereafter.

A recent analysis by Witeck-Combs Communications and Packaged Facts (a division of MarketResearch.com) projects that gay men, lesbians, and bisexuals will provide $610 billion in total buying power in 2005.
