Playboy Survey: More Web Sex

The latest Playboy survey of college campuses shows that students are downloading more pornography from the Internet than they did two years ago. At the same time, they are watching fewer porn videos than they did in 1996. \n Parts of the new survey were released recently at a news conference in New York; the entire survey appears in the magazine's November issue. \n Compared to the results from the previous survey in 1996, college students are more likely to be in monogamous relationships or remain virgins. Indeed, the percentage of students who count themselves as virgins actually has doubled since 1966. When asked for a reason, many of the men say they haven't found the right woman and many women say they want to save themselves for marriage. Among those who are sexually active, most prefer to have only one partner at a time. Fully 70 percent of the women and 54 percent of the men said they have had sex with only one person during the last school year. \n That fidelity may also be reflecting itself in the fact that the percentage of students who have AIDS tests is lower than it used to be. This year, only 26 percent of men and 29 percent of women said they had been tested for the HIV virus. Two years ago, 39 percent of men and 35 percent of women reported having had an AIDS test. \n The survey also asked students about activities potentially related to sex. It found that 52 percent of men and 43 percent of women had engaged in skinny-dipping. Also, 6 percent of men and 15 percent of women have body piercing (not counting ears). Roughly one-fifth of the men and women have used blindfolds and about one in 20 have videotaped their performances. Asked if they had tried drugs for better sex, 12 percent of the men and 6 percent of the women said they had. \n The survey consisted of 86 short questions and 10 essay questions and was administered randomly to 2,000 students in large and small, public and private colleges in California, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania. Those who took the survey were unaware it was conducted for Playboy.
