Playboy Enterprises Shakes Up Top Level Management

Playboy Enterprises, Inc has made some changes in their top-level management including releasing their executive in charge of programming for his contract, purportedly to take advantage of new global opportunities in the cable market.

Last week Playboy announced that James English had been let go from Playboy Enterprises, where he served as executive vice president, and president of the Playboy Entertainment Group, overseeing the growth of the adult cable unit from the original Playboy TV to the 16 networks they control today.

James Griffiths, a veteran TV executive who came to Playboy from MGM in January, has taken over English's administrative duties while continuing as senior executive vice president of corporate parent Playboy Enterprises.

Playboy Entertainment Group is currently seeking a new president of programming, and has reportedly already began seeing candidates for the position.

English will remain under contract as a consultant to advise on new shows and content. He can pursue deals with other networks as long as they do not conflict with Playboy.

English joined Playboy in 1994 to oversee what was then known as Playboy Networks Worldwide, then beginning of Playboy’s cable unit. Among his accomplishments before joining Playboy were helping to launch Pay-Per-View Network, inc. and serving as a vice president at MGM/UA and Showtime, as well as a stint at HBO.
