Skye Blue, Nick Manning and Dean Sussman have joined forces to form Platinum Blue Productions, which will release its first video in two weeks.
“We wanted to start making more stylized adult films going back to a little bit of the old school stuff and staying away from gonzo,” Blue told AVN.com. “We want to try to cater to a wider market.”
As president of the company, Blue will be producing, directing and running the day-to-day operations of Platinum Blue, which will release two titles a month beginning with Blue Erotica on June 15. Manning, one of adult’s most prolific male stars, will be performing in Platinum Blue productions as well as offering his creative input as vice president. Sussman, meanwhile, will handle all the sales and distribution for the company.
“We’re shooting for the broadest market available,” Sussman said. “We’re not pushing any envelope. It’s just old school sex. We’ll tie it together in a featurette. We’ll have a theme running through the movie.
“We’ll put some production value in them and make them look good, and we’ll turn guys on, turn girls on and we’ll sell our product. We’ll be on cable and be in hotels and motels, and we’ll have successful VOD and make as much money as possible with different revenue streams.”
Sussman left Sineplex Entertainment, where he was director of distribution and eventually became a partner with an equity stake, to become a partner in Platinum Blue.
“I thought this was too good to pass up,” he said, adding that he put together Sineplex Europe before he left.
Blue, who has directed over 200 videos in the past eight years, is a 15-year industry veteran with a solid fan base. She helmed productions for Jill Kelly Productions for the past three years, including the popular When the Boyz Are Away, the Girlz Will Play series. She has also directed for companies such as VCA, Wicked, Bizarre and Sin City, and was executive producer for Playgirl TV for a year.
But she says she started Platinum Blue because, “I got sick of being a hired gun and working my ass off for everybody else’s productions.”
“It took me a few years to find my own style and own it,” she added.
Blue said the idea started about a year and a half ago when Manning called her to discuss business.
“What attracted me to him was his smarts. He’s very business savvy and intelligent,” she said. “We dated for four or five months and were very involved. Then a year later, I called him up and said, ‘Let’s talk business. We both think alike. Let’s lay all our cards on the table, no bull and make a good product that our fan bases will like.’”
They'll begin with Blue Erotica, which stars Justine Joli as a radio disc jockey who does fantasy talk radio. The supporting cast includes Morgan March, Charlie Laine, Liza Harper, Genesis Skye, Joelean, Leah Luv and Frankie Dashwood.
“It’s really good sex and good production value with pretty talent, both boys and girls, and very nice art direction,” Skye said. “Being a chick director, I kind of execute the sex a little bit different. I shoot a little more foreplay, more tease, more sensuality.
“We want the videos that Platinum Blue puts out to have a consistent feel and look about them so that when you look at a Platinum Blue Production, you know it’s Platinum Blue.”
The company's second June release is Phuck Fantasies, which stars Nicole Sheridan, who performs a girl/girl with Bella Starr, Morgan March, Joelean and Kelly Fire, who does a d.p.
Platinum Blue’s July releases will be My Sexy Sleepover and Sexual Chemistry, followed by Moist and The Inheritance in August. The company plans to increase its release schedule to three per month starting in September.
The Website platinumblueproductions.com will be live later this week with trailers, still galleries and detailed information about upcoming releases. Sussman noted that only pretty-girl pictures, no hardcore, would be on the site as Platinum Blue adjusts to the new 2257 regulations.
