LOS ANGELES - Digital Playground's blockbuster sequel Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge will screen Wednesday night at the Ackerman Ballroom on the campus of the University of California - Los Angeles.
Sponsored by UCLA's Campus Events Commission, the screening will be followed by a Q&A panel discussion with director Joone, co-producer Samantha Lewis, and stars Evan Stone and Sasha Grey.
“We wanted to spark this dialogue of how the adult film industry, mainstream media, and regular films are becoming so (similar)...There’s a blurring of that line," campus events commissioner and fourth-year psychology student Penson Liu told the UCLA Daily Bruin.
The original Pirates drew a reported 3,000 students to a screening at Carnegie-Mellon University in 2005. According to Digital Playground director of marketing Adella Curry, this week's event at UCLA is part of a planned tour that will bring Pirates II to 30 major colleges and universities nationwide.
"The response to our screening of the first Pirates at Carnegie-Mellon prompted me to include universities in my Pirates II marketing plan," Digital Playground's Adella told AVN. "Digital Playground is excited to share the movie with UCLA staff and students."
The screening will begin at 8 p.m., with discussion scheduled to follow at approximately 10:15.
Digital Playground premiered Pirates II in September at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. Hailed as the most expensive adult production in history, the movie is nominated for an unprecedented 30 AVN Awards including Best Video Feature, Best Director for Joone, Best Actress for Jesse Jane, and Best Actor for Stone.
