SAN FRANCISCO—Pink & White Productions' key players will present at the 2nd Annual Feminist Porn Conference, being held at the University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, April 5-6, 2014. The progressive Bay Area porn company will bring expertise and unique perspectives to the conference, intended to empower academics and professionals in the field.
Pink & White Founder/Director Shine Louise Houston and UC Berkeley Rhetoric lecturer Amy Jamgochian will present on authenticity in pornography. "Real" is a valuable search term in queer porn, where there is a strong demand for a distinction between "gay for pay" performers of queer sex and performers whose sex on screen more closely represents their non-screen sex. The ideas and keywords of "realness" are efficient codes for a separate genre of porn and a specific set of porn preferences. Ideas of authenticity call on histories of gender, sexuality, and film that together powerfully undermine the idea that "real, authentic sexuality" is possible. In this conversation, Houston and Jamgochian discuss the history, politics, and ethics of pornographic authenticity.
Pink & White Marketing Director Jiz Lee will lead the business seminar, More Buck for Your Bang, which aims to empower porn professionals with an understanding of how affiliate marketing can supplement their income while improving the health of the adult industry at large by cultivating ethical consumption. Talent often think the paycheck ends with the scene, but performers of any notoriety can benefit from affiliate programs offered by porn sites and retailers. Many competitive programs offer up to 50 percent commissions, including recurring subscriptions, meaning a performer has the potential to continue earning income long after their shoot. The presentation will give participants of the Feminist Porn Conference a solid understanding affiliate programs, along with the tools to use them to full advantage.
Pink & White Web Developer Chris Lowrance and Lee will co-present If You Build It, They Will .com. Based on their experience developing the membership and video-on-demand paysites, CrashPadSeries.com and PinkLabel.tv, the two will lead a crash course in creating a porn site, with topics such as: choosing a hosting package, keeping customer info secure, protecting premium content from non-paying viewers (and pirates), choosing a payment processor that’s okay with porn, and preparing content for viewing on mobile. They'll also present solutions for the unique challenges of running a commercial feminist porn site, including Frequently Asked Queers: Customer Service Concerns and Top 5 Mistakes (And How We Fixed Them).
Pink & White Productions will also present an international premiere at the 2nd Annual Feminist Porn Conference: Shine Louise Houston will screen her newest film, BED PARTY: Eden Alexander & Sebastian Keys, followed by a director Q&A. A uniquely queer sex documentary, Houston flips the conventional porno script, diving head-first into a cinematic exploration that breaks standard definitions of kinky queer sex and pornography itself.
