Phashon used his street smarts and camera skills to capture a new reality porn video for Onyxxx Films called Daddy’s Side of the Closet.
Phashon will introduce a new personality named Pimpin’ Young, a pimp and rapper from Pomona, Calif., who also performed original songs for the video’s soundtrack in the video, scheduled for release in mid-August. The duo are starting a production company together and went 50-50 on the video.
“All the hos in the movie is real hos on the street, either escorts or real prostitutes,” Phashon said. “I went and got prostitutes off the street, took them to AIM and had them to do the scene. I taped the West Coast Players’ Ball and pimps getting trophies. I stayed on the track all night with the pimps.
“I wanted to go places where other directors can’t go, and Pimpin’ Young let me into his world. I wouldn’t have been able to be on the blade, or tape the ball without him. We helped each other make a great movie.” Phashon added that pimp Lee Mack also helped him with access to the Players' Ball and rapper Suga Buga allowed him to get some exclusive party footage.
Meanwhile, Pimpin' Young also has an album coming out called “Daddy’s Side of the Closet,” featuring Kokane, Chocolate, DJ Silk and producer Chock G. among others. He did a song called “West Coast Pimpin’” that Phashon describes as the “pimps’ anthem” for the soundtrack.
Phashon hung out on the track on Sunset Boulevard, Figueroa and Alvarado Streets, among other Los Angeles hot spots for pimps and hos.
“I’ll go anywhere,” Phashon continued. “I’ll go to the projects. I’ll go to the swap meet. I’ll go to where it could be like a grip of gangs. I’m not scared to go nowhere. I grew up around all that.”
Daddy’s Side of the Closet is a three-disc package that contains two discs of video footage and a soundtrack. The director explained that the title of the video comes from prostitutes calling pimps “daddys.”
“And prostitutes live with the pimps. So you have the prostitute’s side of the closet, and then the pimp’s side,” Phashon said. “And that’s the name of the album and so we made Daddy’s Side of the Closet the movie.”
Phashon has been shooting adult videos for the past four years for companies such as Darkside Entertainment, Inner City Squad Productions and Onyxxx. He shot Mystikal’s Liquid City videos for Hustler, and several volumes of the Inner City Squad/Hustler’s Ghetto Booty and Black & Wild lines. He also directed Pimpfomation XXX (Onyxxx/Heatwave), which won the AVN Award for Best Ethnic-Themed Video in January.
“I like to do a lot of reality-type stuff when I’m filming,” Phashon said. “I started out as just looking for girls and taking them to different companies.”
He got his big porn break when Darkside President and director, Nicky Starks, asked him to shoot a scene for him when he became sick one day in 2000. Phashon had previously only been bringing Starks girls to shoot. He said that Starks left the camera equipment and even the money at the back door of his house and left the rest up to him that day.
“That’s how I got started. If it wasn’t for him and {Darkside’s} Craig Daze, I wouldn’t be here today, I owe him a lot,” Phashon said, also noting that D. Sparky and Kim Hicks of Inner City Squad helped him a great deal. “They gave me a chance out of nothing.”
Now Phashon is also working for EXP Multimedia on an a yet-to-be-titled, big-booty flick.
Phashon worked on street team promotions for the LA radio station, 100.3 FM “The Beat” for 5 1/2 years, taking pictures among other duties.
“I’ve always loved photography,” he said.
Then he began working in promotions and artist development at Priority Records prior to starting in porn.
“I know a lot about marketing and promotions and stuff like that. I’m cool with a lot of people. I'm a people-type-of person,” Phashon said. “That’s one that I got from mom and dad. I always try to help somebody. I give a person my last if I have it.”
A graduate of Pasadena City College who attended Cal State LA, Phashon said, “most of the money I’ve made doing porn, I’ve donated to the Jackie Robinson Park in West Pasadena for the baseball and football programs.”
Onyxxx Films/Heatwave President Gabor Esterhazy said that Phashon is "a very special man.”
“He’s an artist. He is a perfectionist and he has done an excellent job. I’m so glad I met him. He's one of my main guys right now,” Esterhazy told AVN.com. “He did Pimpfomation XXX and this is like Part 2. The creation part was him. I basically I can give him 90 percent credit, only 10 percent for me.”
Phashon, who called Esterhazy "the extra uncle in my life," also has a video called Projecks in the works about life in the projects. In addition, he has begun working on another video with Pimpin' Young and a separate productions with Wesley Pipes.
