Party With The Girl Next Door

Stacy Valentine

LOS ANGELES - The Girl Next Door, acclaimed PBS documentarian Christine Fugate's portrait of porn actress Stacy Valentine, makes its Los Angeles premiere May 12 at the Nuart Theater in Los Angeles. But first there's a party going on - a May 9 bash at Luna Park to celebrate both the film and Valentine's new line of Good Girl/Bad Girl clothing.

The party goes from 8-11 p.m., and its sponsors are bracing for overbooking. The film has already played San Francisco, Berkeley, Chicago, and elsewhere in the United States to warm reviews and audiences, according to producer Adam Berns.

The Girl Next Door chronicles Valentine's transformation from midwestern housewife to adult actress, a transformation which began when her husband urged her to submit a photograph to a top men's magazine, Gallery, for an amateur competition.

She won that contest and thus set the stage for appearances in Hustler, parts in adult films beginning with Coast to Coast's Bikini Beach 4, and then enough to leave her abusive marriage and try Hollywood. From there, it was over fifty adult films, a win as Best American Starlet at the 1999 Hot D'Or Awards at the Cannes Film Festival, and a VCA Pictures contract.

Fugate's own interest in probing porn through a woman's eye led her to Valentine shortly after the actress adopted the stage name (in honor of Valentine's Day being the day she shot her first-ever sex scene). They struck a longtime bond enough for Fugate to make the film, a no-holds-barred look at the paradoxes between being a sex star and looking for real love, not to mention the conflict her current boyfriend, porn actor Julian, experiences between loving the woman and accepting her own porn career.
