Party Time: Expo Goers Boogie Down

Sigmund Freud once said, “Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.” Last night at The Muse in Pasadena, where attendees of the AVN Adult Novelty Expo spent their evening, the same golden haiku logic applied. The party was just a party. And that was more than enough. No greater meaning than that, nothing clever or earth shaking occurred; it was simply a bloody good time with all the proper ingredients: liquor, music, and a few hundred people ready to lap up same after a tough day in the dildo mine.

Sponsored by California Exotic Novelties, Nasstoys, Topco Sales and Doc Johnson, the bash was an utter success. Folks schmoozed and boozed on all three levels of the spacious nightclub, nibbling on appetizers and boogying into the wee hours on dance floors located on the main floor and in the basement. Elusive partyer Paul Fishbein stopped in briefly, while AVN honcho Darren Roberts hung out for the better part of the evening. The small smoking patio out back was consistently packed with tobacco huffing conventioneers trading industry small talk as non-cig fans talked and toasted the night away inside. At times, the shindig had the atmosphere of a wild Shriners soiree; there’s something about being out of town on business that lends itself to enhanced good times.

“This is great!” exclaimed one reveler as the Village People belted out “YMCA.” “It’s an older crowd, and everybody knows how to party.” Truer words were never spoken. And the drink tickets helped.
