Parents of the three students killed in a high school shooting in Paducah, Kentucky, on December 1, 1997, have filed a $130 million lawsuit against two porn websites, several computer game manufacturers, and the makers and distributors of Leonardo DiCaprio's 1995 movie The Basketball Diaries.
"We believe the shooter was influenced by the movies he watched, the computer games he played and the Internet sites he visited," said Sabrina Steger, mother of one of the shooting victims.
Some of the games named in the lawsuit are "Doom," "Quake," and "Mortal Combat." Among the list of defendants in the lawsuit are Nintendo, Sega, and Sony.
"We intend to hurt Hollywood. We intend to hurt the video game industry. We intend to hurt sex porn sites," said the parents' attorney, Jack Thompson.
