PORNCITY.NET THE HIT OF THE MONTH

PornCity.net was the top hit among five adult Web sites making the cut in PC Data's survey of the Top 100 Web sites.

PornCity placed number 43 on the survey, with Cybererotica.com coming in at 52, karasxxx.com at 59, intergal.com at 69 (we're not sure if there's a pun intended there, folks), and cotac.com at 82.

PC Data, a Net research firm, used proprietary software which tracks "unique visitors" who either go to a Web site or Web property (a network of related sites) every month, says PRNewswire. Each visitor is counted once no matter how often he visits the site. PornCity showed 5,203 unique users. Cybererotica showed 4,576; karasxxx, 4,107; intergal, 3,698; and, cotac, 3,321.

PornCity placed even better in the Web property survey, at number 35 (5,580 unique users).

The survey sampled over 60,000 home computer users. Among the Web sites, Yahoo!, AOL.com, GeoCities, The Microsoft Network's Web site, and Passport.com were the top five surveyed. Behind them in the top ten were Netscape, AOLSignOn, AOLWelcome, Microsoft.com, and Lycos, placing them second behind Yahoo among search portals.

Elsewhere around the survey, Yahoo! was both the top visited search portal and the number one site on the survey; in order, fellow search portals Lycos, Excite, and AltaVista also made the top twenty.

Not surprisingly, eBay was the top placer among unique online auction sites, with GeoCities, Angelfire, and Tripod leading the free Web site hosts in the top twenty.

America Online dominated the top twenty in sheer volume, with AOL.com, AOLSignOn, AOLWelcome, and AOLNews in those rankings. The Microsoft Network, Microsoft.com, and Netscape also cracked the top twenty, as did book and music seller Amazon.com, Passport.com, and Real.com, the home of RealPlayer software.
