PORN STARS GET MIXED REVIEWS FOR ROCK VID WORK

Kobe Tai \nLOS ANGELES - Depending upon whom you ask, some of the leading adult video stars are getting very mixed reviews for their appearances in a slightly more (but not by much, apparently) mainstream medium: rock videos.

Never mind that porn stars and rock stars seem to be making more mutual mating calls of late. They're working with each other a lot more. There were Kobe Tai and Dyanna Lauren joining in the alleged fun on Marilyn Manson's Mechanical Animals. Vivid girl Heather Hunter appeared in a video by the late rapper Tupak Shakur, "How Do You Want It."

Porn's prodigal daughter, Ginger Lynn, turns up in "Turn the Page," the video of Metallica's cover of the Bob Seger chestnut, as a stripper. And Vivid's Janine - who was supposed to have been retiring from porn, based on a statement she gave earlier this fall - not only is a former girlfriend of Motley Crue Front Man Vince Neil, she appeared in Blink 182's "What's My Age Again," stopping the band cold with little more than a suggestive look.

Janine and a small host of other Vivid girls also appear in Everclear's video promoting their cover of the Thin Lizzy hit "The Boys Are Back In Town".

Does it all mean bids by the porn ladies to get some attention from mainstream film? After all, there have been a few who did cross over - Lynn did; so did Traci Lords, at least after she came of legal age. And Jenna Jameson showed up briefly (no pun intended) in the film version of Howard Stern's'autobiography, Private Parts.

But if you think the likes of Friends star Courteney Cox got a lucky break by going from rock video (she appeared in Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing In The Dark," paving the way for her role toward the end of the run of Family Ties), it might be a little more difficult for the porn ladies, says Rouze.com writer David Simutis.

"It's difficult for someone who works in the porn industry to make the break and become a serious actress," he writes. "There's just something about being on the receiving end of money shots that makes it hard for people in the straight world to take you seriously."
