Five months after its opening inspired a hoopla of protest, all seems quiet inside and outside Castle Superstore, a porn warehouse here.
The Oregonian says the customers seem few and protesters far between, but neither side wants to admit the sex shop is "a colossal non-event."
Store workers still say business is fine and growing every week, but the Oregonian says it's dry compared to the traffic going into and out of Fantasy Adult Video a mile and a half away. A Castle spokesman, though, says that's mostly because Fantasy features private viewing booths.
Castle's parking lot is wide open, leaving customers no place to hide if their neighbors or others they don't want interfering drive by, the spokesman says. And normal traffic patterns make Castle's corner somewhat treacherous.
On the other hand, Castle has resisted going outlandish to attract business. "We're just trying to be a good neighbor," a spokesman told The Oregonian.
