Opera, SlipStream Partner on Swift Browser

Opera Software and SlipStream Data are teaming up to bring the latter's Web and e-mail acceleration technology into the former's alternative Internet browser. The companies hope to unleash what they call the world's fastest browser on the market in the forthcoming Opera version 7.60.

"As Opera is known as the fastest browser on earth, the decision to consider the browser for this integration was simple," SlipStream president Ron Neumann said announcing the collaboration.

"Our goal is to offer a superior accelerated browsing experience on any platform, including desktops, laptops, PDAs and smart phones, and Opera's multiplatform support helps achieve this," Neumann continued. "This integration gives [Internet service providers] increased support and speed for their users, and will also significantly increase the productivity of mobile workers. Such a partnership helps us continue to expand and embed our technology into new markets."

Opera 7.60 is expected at 2004's end. Opera and SlipStream said integrating the SlipStream acceleration to Opera would mean six times the current browsing speed on dialup and wireless connections alike, as well as fast, secure, critical data access for mobile and fixed location workers and companies on limited bandwidth.

"SlipStream is the dominant acceleration solution provider for ISPs in North America, South America and Europe," said Opera chief executive Jon S. von Tetzchner. "Their innovation and reputation for service makes them an ideal partner. We are eager to work together to deliver an improved experience in installation, operation and support to enterprises and users wanting more web speed and performance."
