Only You Can Authorize E-Buys...With MC SecureCode

Only your customer and anyone they authorize directly can make online purchases with the customer's MasterCard, by way of the company's new SecureCode program. This could prove a benefit to those like adult Webmasters who often run into the old "it wasn't me" dodge when it comes time to pony up the MasterCard bill.

Visa has a similar program, Verified By Visa.

"One hundred percent of chargebacks and refunds I have seen on my sites were for the entire membership," said one Webmaster on one of the numerous adult Webmaster message boards April 14. "People do this to get free porn. I think this could help a lot, and I hope CCBill will have a good implementation of both the Visa and MasterCard versions."

When you make an online purchase from an e-tailer accepting MasterCard credit or debit cards, you'll get a box from your card's issuer popping up at once asking for a special code, "just like entering your PIN at the ATM," MasterCard says.

All you have to do is register and create a personal SecureCode only you know, and the program works automatically once you get the SecureCode set, MasterCard continues. Online merchants who accept MasterCard will also show a SecureCard logo indicating your MasterCard purchasing will be safe there.

SecureCode "works with most browsers," says the company's Website. "However, you should disable any software that prevents pop-up windows as this will interfere with your use of SecureCode."
